Sound Lab is a registered Scottish charity helping young people to fulfil their creative potential through free music, media, digital and arts tuition. The three main communities we serve as of January 2025 are: care-experienced children and young people; those with lived experience of displacement (e.g. asylum seekers and refugees); and children and young people with a disability/additional support needs.

The idea for the workshop was to make field recording more accessible by using free tools. Laurie also showed the artist-participants how to do some basic editing in Audacity – a free audio program. The clips were selected from a large collection and no adjustments other than some basic trimming was used.
